tar lunged screams, i choke and bleed
both weightless and corpulent
my entrails melting on hot pavement

i could tell that all she wanted was blood and i was too afraid to deny her of that necessity. my regrets scour the globe to this very day. “bring out your dead” she wails as the barrow creeks down the road. while once made of sand, my skin is now glass. every fibre of my being became kin to communion. i spat my distaste and spread my warnings, but all that came up was red. born of it, made man by it, and undone by it. she knew there was nothing left of me.
